Disconnect Fees and Problems (433 reviews)
Loyal Customer
“ I've been a loyal customer for almost 10 years now. I had to switch accounts for my billing. In the switch, I accidentally attempted to pay the bill with my old account. Well, once I found out that I made the mistake, I was charged a late fee, disconnect notice fee, and a returned payment fee....Though these charges were only $57, I have a problem with them not waiving them because of my tenure and loyalty as a good customer. I have a house full and I shell out at times up to $500 a month or more for service. Quite disappointed. ”

Unable to reach a Customer Service Rep for Days & Many wasted Hours!!
“ How in the world do you reach a live person regardless of the option chosen? I have spent many hours in the queue on multiple occasions for hours, then the call drops OR the Representatives purposely disconnect my calls. I must speak to someone since my request cannot be made on line! Go figure. Yes, due to the high call volume, we cannot accept you call. Well, hire more employees for God's sake! ”

Unfortunate Problem
“ Ive been a customer with Xoom for 3 years. Unfortunately I have to say that on my last move and switch over my lights were disconnected after 2 weeks only to find out that my lights were not switched over properly and no one could solve my issue and Im without lights for 24 to 48 hours after being on the phone for almost 2 hours of unanswered questions. This sucks for a loyal customer of 3 years of service. I was told that I had to wait on a release order because of the tenants before me witch should have happened at the time of my switch. There goes my food and its cold. ”

DISCONNECTED SERVICE, THEIR MISTAKE!!
“ I called the morning of Jun. 1,2020 to ask the why my electricity is disconnected. I clearly called them on 2 occasions to cancel my disconnection notice since I had not yet moved into my house. They told me after I waited over an hour being transferred, that they will connect me in 1 or 2 hours top. It is not 5:15 p.m I have NO ELECTRICITY & they are not answering. I am so humiliated after paying them $218.00 balance that was suppose to be made in payments & they still haven't taken the time to connect my service. It is outrageous. I have been a loyal customer for over 5 or 6 years. ”

Bill pay problem
“ I am in Texas. I mailed my payment to them on the 6th along with 2 other bills from the same mailbox. The other 2 bills posted to my account on the 12th. I got a disconnect notice from infinite energy on the 18th. Customer service explained to me that billing was done in Texas and reported to them. He was not allowed to tell me if it was a contract service but he did tell me that they have had many other complaints. I set up auto pay so we will see how that goes. ”

they all get your money one way or another
“ the reviews here for reliant energy are mostly unfavorable...yes, there are some cheaper plans out there, but doing the comparisons takes a great deal of time, and in the end, there are added fees or a difference in a disconnect or change fees that make up for a few cents per kw hour rate..i have been a customer of reliant energy since the start,as i had houston lighting and power before that who changed to reliant energy, who is now reliant energy an nrg company..sum total it comes to well over 30 years at different residences..their telephone customer service is ok,not great, but at least they answer the phone..if you have a problem, you are referred to centerpoint energy who actually handles the transmission of the electricity and any outages, and their telephone reps can be rude..reliant is basically just the billing name or so i was told,,in fact, centerpoint handles most of the electric companies you can choose from and they read the "smart meters"...if you rplan was changed to something "similar" to what you had (this has happened to me a few times)it is because of changes in regulations and lately , because of the new smart meters that can be read from the street..i am disappointed they no longer have the "wind driven" power, but if you want that, it is about 14.5 cents per kw with the other companies...overall reliant is as good as the others...i will have the newest "nights and weekends" plan when my contract expires, so i may change my mind!! ”
